The Early Baroque Period
Music from the period of approximately 1600 to 1750 is usually referred to as “Baroque”.
Style Features
- Rhythms become more definite and regular. As for meter, bar line is used.
- Basso Continuo: THe bass part in Baroque music is played by low instruments and organ, harpsichord or other chord instrument. This instrument not only reinforces the bass line, it also adds chords continuously to go with it.
- Functional Harmony is rapidly developed.
